Environment & Sustainability

WOPAS develops products designed for a long service life and low environmental impact over time. Our basic principle is to use the properties of each material where they provide the greatest benefit – creating products that can perform in demanding environments for many years with minimal maintenance.

Renewable raw material

Wood is the main material used in WOPAS products. It is a renewable resource that captures and stores biogenic carbon as it grows and continues to store that carbon while the wood remains in the product.

By using wood in applications where the alternatives are often more energy- and material-intensive, resource use and environmental impact can be reduced.

Protection for a long service life

The wood is protected by an outer layer of polyethylene (PE). The PE layer prevents direct contact between the wood and soil, water and other demanding environments, contributing to a long technical service life.

A long service life means fewer replacements, less maintenance and reduced consumption of materials and resources over time.

Materials and circularity

WOPAS works to make efficient use of both wood and polyethylene and to ensure that materials can be managed in a resource-efficient way at the end of the product's service life.

We consider the entire product life cycle – from raw materials and production to use and end-of-life material management – an important part of our environmental approach.

Documented environmental performance

We believe the environmental performance of our products should be assessed based on facts. That is why WOPAS has developed third-party verified EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations). They provide transparent information on environmental impacts throughout the product life cycle in accordance with established standards, giving customers, designers and specifiers a reliable basis for comparisons and material choices.
