WOPAS solar rack ground mount

Most likely the only wood-based system on the market produced in Scandinavia using Scandinavian raw materials. Few posts (4 per rack) and a large integrated base plate enable installation in challenging ground conditions such as obstacles, marshland, and uneven terrain.

Wood: As a load-bearing material, WOPAS uses wood – Norwegian or Swedish spruce or pine. In this document, we distinguish between “WOPAS wood,” which is PE-coated wood, and impregnated wood, which refers to traditional wood protection.

Polyethylene (PE): For wood protection in WOPAS poles installed in the ground, PE100 is used – the same material used in drinking water pipes. The recycled content of the PE is typically around 60–70%, but can be up to 100% for project-specific orders. When 100% recycled PE is used, the WOPAS wood becomes black instead of brown.

CO₂, environment, and circularity: The combination of wood and a high share of recycled PE results in exceptionally low CO₂ emissions.

Full pH range: WOPAS poles with PE100 are suitable for use in both drinking water sources and extreme or corrosive environments.

Foundation method: WOPAS poles with PE100 and base plates are installed by digging two short trenches per rack.

System description: Vertical posts and horizontal beams are made from WOPAS poles. Diagonal supports for solar panels are made from standard impregnated wood measuring 45–48 mm x 120–148 mm, treated to NTR class A or AB. The same components can be used for different tilt angles – standard is 30 or 45 degrees.

In 2025, the product portfolio will be expanded with an alternative developed in cooperation with Bruse AS and Lobas AS, where the horizontal beam is made of aluminum and the diagonal bracing is in steel.

Expected technical lifetime: 80 years for WOPAS poles and beams with PE100, 40 years for galvanized brackets, 30 years for impregnated wood (NTR class A) – with a 20-year rot protection warranty.

Testing: WOPAS wood has been tested in multiple ways: mechanical testing, fatigue, fastener pull-out, and more

WOPAS is the new alternative for power-, tele- and marine poles.
